Institute dates: June 8-14, 2026
For full consideration, submit your application and audition materials by March 31, 2026. Applications received after March 31 will still be considered as long as openings remain.
Note that the application deadline for the NewBassoon Performance Competition is March 15.
Applicants will receive acceptance notifications by April 5. Accepted applicants must register for the Institute by April 15.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Accepted applicants will receive instructions to register for the Institute through Appalachian State University.
Required Materials:
- A current performance resume or CV
- Links to videos of 2 contrasting movements or works for unaccompanied bassoon (with or without electronics), and/or bassoon and piano, at least one of which was composed after 1980. Excerpts from longer works are acceptable, as long as the total submission includes at least 6 minutes of music. Video submissions may include both works in a single video, or in two separate videos.
Tuition & Housing
Tuition and Housing Costs:
- Tuition + Double Occupancy Room: $845
- Tuition + Single Occupancy Room: $1,020
Tuition includes all program activities for the duration of the week. Meals are not included, but may be purchased à la carte at the dining hall or at local restaurants.
Participants must pay for their own travel to and from Boone, NC, and should plan to arrive on June 8 and depart on June 14.
